It started, like most good things do, with a group of friends who couldn't stop talking.
Mihika, Kushal, and Aakshi, three best friends, in 11th grade who somehow manage to turn every conversation into a rabbit hole. Physics, fashion, economics, a random poem, intergalactic theories, our latest reads(mostly mine, hi I'm Mihika, the chief editor of the magazine :D) nothing is off limits, and nothing ever stays on topic.
It began with astronomy. We wanted to build something around our shared love for the stars, planets, astrophysics or extraterrestrial life and everything in between, we wanted to build a club, a space, a corner of the internet that felt like looking up at the night sky. But the more we talked, the bigger it got. Why just astronomy? Why not everything?
"What if we made something that could hold all of it — the science, the stories, the strange 3am thoughts — all in one place?"
Opalite is a gemstone that shimmers differently in every light. Tilt it one way and it glows soft blue; turn it again and it burns gold. We liked the idea of a magazine where every reader has their own perspective.
Commerce student by day, magazine editor by everything-else. Mihika is the heart of Opalite — she handles the writing, the curation, and the one keeping the digital side of Opalite alive. She brings the vision that holds it all together.
reading, photography, the stars, sunflowers, and conversations that go on way too long ✦
PCM student Kushal is building our official website where you can apply to be in the team as well as put your submissions for our magazine — and trust us, it's going to be beautiful. There will also be science based simulations on our website, enjoy exploring!
astronomy, photography, chemistry, and the cosmos ✦
PCM student and the one who brings a certain kind of light to every room and every idea. Aakshi is proof that you can love equations and dancing in equal measure, and in her words, technical thinkers can also be artists.
dancing, astronomy, laughing, and ideas that don't sit still ✦
To Mihika's Economics teacher, you were the first person we nervously pitched this to, back when it was little more than a vague idea and a very ambitious Google Doc printout. You listened to every messy draft, every overcomplicated explanation, every "wait, one more thing," and somehow understood our vision before it even had a name.
To our parents, thank you for believing in this project long before it became real. Your encouragement, patience, and unwavering support gave us the confidence to keep creating, revising, and dreaming bigger. ✧
Every issue carries a little piece of your faith in us. We hope these pages make you proud. ✦
For pitches, questions, collabs, or just to say hello — we genuinely love hearing from you all! ✦
We'd love to hear what you think — a reflection, a question, or just a hello ✧
